Iceland with the Groves – Day 6

Today was our last day (well, half day) which we spend doing some last minute exploration near the guesthouse and port area.

Here are a last look at a few of the nearby buildings as we made our way to the Harpa Concert Hall.

This first one is our guest house. The entrance is the white door people were coming out, just to the left of the double brown doors. It was a door to a stairway, and then all of the rooms were on the second and third floors of the building.

This building below is the Prime Minister’s office (somewhat across from our guesthouse).

Harpa is a very interesting building, made up of kind of glass “blocks” which give it a very unique look from the outside:

As well as from the inside, looking out…

We had a tour, in which we got to see a very unique “sound” hall (like a conference room), with interesting wall attributes (both regarding sound and lighting).

While they went through numerous colors, here’s a small sampling to give you a feel for what the room could do:

And of course the tour included the main auditorium which was impressive as well.

And in case you didn’t notice on the map, the Harpa backs up to the harbor. Here is a picture of the portion directly behind the Harpa.

This concludes this visit to Iceland. It was our first time traveling with others/family (other than a mum here or there), and we will call it a VERY successful and fun trip as we had an absolute blast exploring Iceland with Blake and Sondra. Thank you very much guys! (And we of course truly hope they felt and can say the same.)

So back to the airport to head home, but we will leave you with one last goodbye from Ingolfur Arnarson, the first permanent settler of Iceland located in Arnaholl Park.

Cheers!
